Palm Beach Gardens, or the Gardens, is a city along the eastern coast of
Florida about one hour and 40 minutes north of Miami. It is a desirable
beachside community, though it was primarily occupied by cattle ranches,
pine forests, and swamplands until the mid-20
th century. In the 1960 Census, the city of Palm Beach Gardens had an official
population of just one person, though the area boomed through the 60s
and grew to have a population of 7,000 by 1970.
Today, the Gardens is lined with many gated communities, and it is a golf-centered
community with the headquarters of the PGA and 12 golf courses within
city limits. The healthcare industry drives the economy of the city, as
Tenet Healthcare is the city’s second largest employer.
